It's Been 3 Weeks!

I can't wait until Friday to get this splint out. I feel like a broken record, but I really hate this thing. It's really getting on my nerves. I'm tired of people not being able to understand me when I talk. It's very frustrating. Especially in the morning when I am trying to get my kids up and ready for school when I'm tired and crabby already ~ it's not fun. At the same time, I am anxious about getting it out. I hope it doesn't hurt. I'm also anxious about how my bite is going to feel in its new position.

My cheeks and chin feel pretty swollen this morning. I'm wondering when it's going to be gone. It's hard to be patient.

So yesterday I was excited to be able to "eat" oatmeal with lots of brown sugar (thinned down, of course), pintos & cheese from Taco Bell with lots of hot sauce, and then rice with lots of green sauce at our local Mexican place. Food with flavor is so exciting.:) I can't stand all this bland stuff I had been eating.

That's about it for now...

Hey Aimee,
I too just had surgery 3 wks ago tomorrow. I had the exact same thing done and I too have small kids. I'd love to share our daily woes. You mentioned about getting your splint out tomorrow, one of my dr.s said I could the other one didn't seem on board... felt it was too soon. I'm also anxious to get it out b.c it's like a security blanket but I am also excited to talk normal!

Hi Steffi, congrats on the surgery! It feels like the time went by fast at first and now it's slowed down a bit. My boys are 12 and 9. Not too little. How old are yours?

I'm supposed to get the splint out on Friday. It does feel like it is too soon, but at the same time I really want it out. It gets me in such a bad mood. :) Especially when I say a long sentence to my husband or kids and they say, "what?" Forget it... :)

Have you been taking pictures?

I felt the same way about the splint. Mine came out at 6 weeks. I can talk much better now. I love it. It doesn't hurt when they take it out, so don't worry. They said it would smell bad, but I had been using a water pic and mouth wash, so mine wasn't that bad. Just rinse well before you go. They will let you brush your teeth when it is out. It feels so good to have clean teeth. LOL Bless ya!

Oh' thanks for the Mexican post. I am going to go soon. I am still on soft diet even now because my teeth must be lined up orthodontically. Bless ya.

Hey Aimee,
Good luck on getting the splint out! you'll have to let me know how it goes...I'm glad you're going first : ) I have 5yr old and 3 yr old boys. I go for my 3 wk check up today so we'll see...maybe they'll surprise me and take it out too, not getting my hopes up! I hear you with trying to talk...I go through all the effort and then they don't understand and I say forget it and then they get frustrated with me...Hello we're the ones with all the crap in our mouth LOL! I find my girl friends that our moms can understand me the best...probably b/c they're trying to understand their young kids all day so I'm a no different.
As for pictures, no I haven't taken any. I know I should, but....It took me four days after surgery to actually look at myself b/c it freaked me out when I caught a glance of my face at the hosp. I have minimal swelling now, just around the lower jaw area and yes my left side of my chin is still numb as well as the lower left part of my lip...weird.

I can't wait to hear how things go for you! Good luck.

Hi Leah! I go in at noon. You'll probably be long gone by then. What is your appointment for? You already had your molds done right? Is this your pre-op appointment?
