Pizza, Pancakes and Pain

I think I'll start with the pain first. Last night I had the worst pain so far. It almost brought me to tears. The roof of my mouth and all my teeth and jaws were aching like crazy. I'm guessing it's because the nerves are waking up and I'm not as numb. I'll take the numbness over the pain any day. I took 2 Advils and the pain went away and I feel fine today.

So last night I was starving as usual. I cannot get myself to eat blender food or smoothies. It just doesn't appeal to me. We had gotten a pizza for the kids and I couldn't resist. Did you know you can eat pizza without chewing it? I broke it in little pieces and was able to eat it. It was delicious. Today I thought I would try pancakes. Yum. No chewing required.

I'm still swollen. I'm trying to be patient, but it's frustrating. I find that when I take Advil, the swelling goes down for a bit, but
then it comes back.

OH NO to the pain, but YAY for the pizza and pancakes! My swelling goes up and down too, depending on the time of day, if I've been in the cool AC or out in the sun, or if I've taken Advil. I'm glad that the Advil was able to control your pain, I'm looking forward to my numbness going away but I know that the pain awaits...

Sorry to hear about your pain Aimee. How uncomfortable. I'm glad to hear you got relief with the Ibuprofen. When I got feeling back it would bother me just one or two days and then be fine. So hopefully you'll feel less pain soon.
I'm so excited to hear you can eat pancakes w/out chewing!! That is the one thing I've been craving this whole time and can't wait to eat. I just got my hooks and bands off today...I feel so naked!! I'm going to try pancakes tonight per your recomm. When do your bands come off? It's so nice to drink a cup of something, use a spoon, take vitamins without grinding!!!

Thanks you guys. Today has been fine. No pain but LOTS of tingling. I would love to have feeling in my chin again.
Steffi, let me know if you tried the pancakes. When you put the syrup on them, they are really easy to eat and so good.

I felt naked with my hooks off to, but it's so nice. I have one band on each side of my mouth. When I got my splint out, none of the teeth on the left side touched. The bands must be working because they all touch now. Amazing. The bands don't bother me too much. I'm allowed to take them out when I eat, so that's nice.
I hope you both are doing well!!

Well I tried the pancakes and they were GREAT! I also helped myself to anything I could get on a spoon and not chew. Needless to say my face is a little swollen and sore this morn. from the "exercising." Ques, when I yawn now I obviously do it bigger. Last night in the middle of the night I kept yawning but then would get a sharp pain when it went to big so I would try to not yawn. Well I yawned again and I heard like a knuckle crack and it made the stiff feeling go away but it was the worst pain. I ended up taking ibuprofen b/c I couldn't get back to sleep it hurt so much. Have you experienced this yet?

Oh boy, that does not sound like fun, but very happy the Advil took care of it. Nothing like having all that aching in your head, it's kind of hard to ignore.

Ooooh pancakes!! Giving this a try pronto! I love the pizza endeavour~ where there's a will, there's a way! Yummy :)

I dream of the day I can eat pizza! I'm so sick of smoothies and it's only been a week. Aimee, I'm sorry about the pain. I hope it doesn't keep happening. I've been getting sharp pains in my chin a lot. I'm sure it's nerves which suprises me because I'm only one week post-op. I expected that I would still be completely numb. I have feeling back in parts of my lower lip. Is that normal? SteffiD, I too had a sharp pain when I yawned too big...I think it's normal. I'm off to my first post-op appointment. Hope you all have a great day!

I do understand.... My swelling is less in the afternoon and evening. The mornings are the worst. Even at 9 weeks, I still have some swelling.

I have wondered about eating pizza, I haven't tried it yet. I did have some of my son's pancakes. They were wonderful.

The pain does get better. My pain reminded me of being pinched or something blunt being pushed in my face. It is not as bad now, so hang in there.

Blessings : )

Hi! I'm Margaret and I'll be having surgery on June 16th to also fix my Class 3 malocclusion. You're blog has been very helpful to me! I've had some trouble finding someone who had both the upper and lower jaws done; most were either one or the other. Anyway, thanks for making your blog and I hope you're healing is progressing!!

Good luck Margaret! Let us know how it goes. I'm so glad my blog has been helpful for you. Reading so many other blogs before I had my surgery really helped me to prepare for mine.
