Question for those who've had surgery....

I was wondering when you guys went in for your pre-op appointments with the surgeon? When I set up my appointment, the girl said she would be calling me sometime before the surgery to set up two pre-op appointments. My surgery is in 39 days (not that I'm counting). I'm just curious if it's usually three weeks before? Two weeks? A week? I suppose I could call her, but they are always so busy, I feel like I am bugging them. Thanks!

My daughter underwent the surgery 3 weeks ago. Her last pre-op visit with her surgeon was 2 weeks prior to her surgery and then she had to do blood work 1 week prior. I hope this helps. You should never let yourself feel that you are bothering the people in your surgeon's office. They are there to answer your questions. If you have any other questios that you think I can answer ask away....

Thank you, Diane. You're right ~ I wish I didn't feel that way. I hope my next experience with the surgeon is better than the last one.

And, thank you, that did help. I imagine most surgeries follow the same pattern.

thanks!

How is your daughter doing? Has it been rough?

Hi Aimee,

I just got my surgery date with Dr. Relle (May 29th) and they told me the same thing.
But the girls in the front also told me that if I didn't hear from anyone to feel free to call them and check the status.
If you're curious or need to plan out other things I wiould definitely call. They are less busy towards the end of the day I think...

Hi Leah,

We are both going to Dr. Relle for our surgery. I haven't found him to be the easiest person to ask questions of. Maybe it's just me. He just seems so impersonal. I asked him a question about something and he gave me some flippant answer, which has deterred me from asking more questions. He hasn't volunteered any information about the surgery or what to expect. He hasn't asked me if I have any questions. How has he been with you?

Funny that you should say that...

Prior to my first surgery with Dr. Relle (Nov. 2007) He was very personable and forthcoming with information.

It had been almost a year and a half since I had seen or spoken to Dr. Relle until my appointment last Friday. He did seem a bit different...
I asked him the questions as opposed to him volunteering information. And I did get some answers that were kind of confusing at first, so I tried to ask him the questions in a different way and he seemed to get it the 2nd time around.

How many times have you met with him?

I know it can get frustrating...but part of his job is answering questions, so don't feel bad about asking them until you get satisfactory and clear answers.

I've only met with him twice. I know he's a really great surgeon, so I'm not nervous being in his care. I just wish he were a little more personable. I really don't have a lot of questions. I do want to know how many nights I will be staying in the hospital. I hope it's only one.

My pre-op with my surgeon was 2 days before my surgery. I also had my appt with the hospital that same day (to take my blood and everything).
