Scary Pictures

I have to admit, I'm not exactly thrilled to be posting these pictures, but here they are in all their glory. Of course, not only are the pictures awful, but I just had to blink every time she clicked the camera. You can see in the pictures of my face how long my chin is (I swear it's gotten worse over the years!) My midline is off and my chin goes to the left. Hmmm...funny how I never noticed that before. You can see on the right lower side that I have three dental implants to replace two molars that I had to have removed because of the bone loss. I hope the orthodontist can work around the implants since they can't be moved. Five more days until I hear what the treatment plan is. I am waiting, impatiently...

We have the same chin, I think! "Long" is the perfect word for it. And, don't you hate those pictures the dentist takes? I think they try to catch you off-guard for the "before" picture so the "after" picture looks that much better!

Okay, now you have to post a picture so we can compare chins!!
I think you're right about the before/after thing...I just hate any picture of me - eyes open or closed. Ugh.

Hey Aimee,
I'm sure the ortho can work around your implants. I have a lower bridge on my right side and we have been able to work around that.

Good luck to you, and trust me...your pics aren't bad at all! I have seen much much worse! Yours look very good!

Brandy - thanks for the comment. It's nice to have the support of people who have been through this. Everyone seems to look at me cross-eyed when I tell them what I will be having done. And thanks about the pictures! I just feel like they are so yuck. I guess we are hardest on ourselves though. You look great btw!

I think we've all had issues with pictures of ourselves! I'm the same way...I hid from cameras for years!

I had things too that I never really noticed about my bite/smile/chin before I started this whole journey. I think that's why many people say "I don't see anything wrong with you...you look fine!" because they don't notice them either! When I put my before and after pics up, my Aunt called and said that she didn't really understand why I was doing the surgery until she saw the pictures. She said when you know someone for a long time (especially a loved family member) you don't notice their little imperfections.

Now you have the 'befores' and just need the 'afters'!!

You know, I think your teeth are a lot better than mine were when I started! I think you're going to love the results you get from orthdontics and surgery! Now if these chubby cheeks went down, I'd be happier, but sometimes I just look in the mirror and stare at my teeth. Even though they are in the splint, the top overlaps the bottom all around, just like it's supposed to. And there have been the other cosmetic benefits too. Yeah, you're gonna love it. :)

People equate straight teeth with fine teeth. Your teeth are very straight. I have learned that most people just don't know what a "good bite" or "proper bite" is. Since your teeth are so straight, I think you're going to be asked a lot of questions as to why you're doing this! But you'll know the truth (don't try to explain it to them too much -- they don't get it).

Erin, you are so right! So often people tell me what nice, straight teeth I have and I just kinda laugh because I know how off my bite is. Now when I mention to someone that I am getting braces, I get the whole "Why? Your teeth are straight." So it does make it harder to explain.

Last night I had a dream that I had the surgery and my upper teeth were overlapping the bottoms and it felt so good. lol Too bad it was just a dream.

I keep opening up your pictures and making comparisons and my kids are like "Enough already!!" I can't believe how much difference the surgery made. The cheeks will go down in time ~ for now enjoy looking like you are 12. :-) It's super cute.

Wow, Erin, good point. So true! I was having a discussion with friends once, and I admitted that I am embarrassed of my teeth and smile. They couldn't understand why, as my teeth are straight!

hi aimee im a 27 yr old guy in england and my surgery date is on sept 11! (5 days away). bit nervous but cant wait to get it over and done with. completely understand how annoying it is when people tell you they cant see anything wrong with ur jaw/smile. drives me mad!! my jaw and bit are the 1st things i look at in the mirror and pictures and it really bothers me. cant wait to get it done. you have lovely teeth by the way.

Thanks, Casey! I don't think of my teeth as lovely, but it's nice to hear anyway. Good luck on your surgery. Are you having both upper and lower? Let us know how it goes. I can imagine you are nervous, but I am sure everything will go great! Good luck!
